On Tuesday, Apple announced the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max at its ‘California Streaming‘ virtual keynote. All iPhone 13 models are very similar in overall designs to their respective predecessors. The powerful and efficient A15 Bionic SoC powers the iPhone 13 series, and all four will ship with iOS 15. The 5 nanometer A15 Bionic has nearly 15 billion transistors, a new 6-core CPU, two high-performance, four high-efficiency, a 4-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and a new image signal processor (ISP). The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have the same flat-edge aluminum frames design as the previous generation iPhone with Ceramic Shield and an industry-leading IP68 rating for water and resistance (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes).

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have an f/1.6 aperture, 1.7um sensor pixels, sensor-shift optical stabilization from the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and a new 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.4 aperture that capture 47 percent more light for brighter images with less noise. The TrueDepth camera on the iPhone and iPhone 13 Mini enable Face ID for facial recognition to securely unlock the iPhone. iPhone 13 series has a Cinematic Video mode supporting rack focus, shifting focus between subjects even when moving. Transitions happen automatically in real-time when someone enters the frame or looks away.
The advanced machine learning algorithms powered by A15 Bionic enable Cinematic mode in Dolby Vision HDR, HDR video recording with Dolby Vision in 4K up to 60 fps on all cameras. The dual-camera system on the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini supports Smart HDR 4 with improved color, contrast, and lighting for each subject in a group photo and improved Night mode. The world is quickly moving to 5G, and iPhone 13 and 13 Mini offers an advanced 5G experience with a customized hardware design that features more 5G bands, allowing for greater coverage and performance. A Smart Data mode will automatically switch the iPhone to LTE when 5G speeds aren’t needed to save battery life. The iPhone 13 and 13 mini can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W charger, support Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W, and MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W.
