Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has launched a new subscription service called “Meta Verified” that allows users to add a blue check mark to their profiles on both platforms for a monthly fee. The web version of the service is available for $11.99 per month, while the mobile version costs $14.99 per month.
The subscription service was tested in Australia and New Zealand in February and will be gradually rolled out to more US users. Meta has taken feedback from the initial test of Meta Verified in Australia and New Zealand into consideration, particularly regarding the confusion that some subscribers experienced with increased visibility and reach in search, comments, and recommendations.
Meta Verified offers several features, including a badge, proactive impersonation protection, and direct access to customer support. Subscribers also receive 100 Stars per month on Facebook and exclusive stickers on Facebook and Instagram Stories and Facebook Reels to show support for other creators.
To sign up, users must join the waitlist online and be at least 18 years old. Users who want to obtain the blue checkmark on Meta platforms are required to provide a government-issued ID that matches their profile name and photo and enable two-factor authentication for the verification process. It is important to note that Meta Verified subscribers cannot change their profile name, photo, username, or date of birth without repeating the verification process.
To sign up for Meta Verified, users can go to their account settings on Instagram or Facebook and click on “Accounts Center.” If the subscription service is available for their account, they will see “Meta Verified available” under their name and profile picture. They can then choose their preferred payment method and complete the verification process.
This subscription service follows similar moves by other social media platforms, such as Twitter, which offers paid verification through their Twitter Blue subscription service for $8 per month. Meta Verified does not charge users who are already verified on Instagram and Facebook.
